Tips to prevent arthritis

The term arthritis is used to denote a group of chronic disorders that affect your joints and muscles. There is no cure for arthritis and it is a progressive disease that generally gets worse in absence of proper care and treatment and as you age. Read to know some tips on how to prevent arthritis.

Relax and rest

When your muscles are tense the stress and damage of joint increases. Learn ways to relax and de-stress your muscles and joint such as soak in a hot tub (to relax your joints and muscles) especially after strenuous exercise to prevent arthritis.

Balance rest and activity

Take appropriate rest (about eight hours of sleep at night and if needed a nap in the afternoon). Do regular exercises for about 20 to 30 minutes on most days of the week.  However avoid any exercise that causes joint pain and which lasts for more than an hour after you finish exercising.

Adopt good posture

Practice good posture habits such as lift heavy items with your hip muscles, rather than bending down. Avoid sitting on soft chairs and prefer the use of a firm mattress for sleeping.

Take care of your joints

Protect your joints form cold weather. Wear warm gloves to protect your knuckles, long underwear to protect your knee joints, and woollen socks to protect your ankles and toe joints.

Be at healthy weight
